About this tool
The Pomodoro Technique was developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. Work is divided into 25-minute focused sessions — called pomodoros — each followed by a 5-minute break. The name comes from the tomato-shaped kitchen timer Cirillo used as a student. Session and break durations can be adjusted to suit your working style.
Short, time-boxed intervals reduce the mental resistance to starting tasks and help maintain concentration by making the commitment feel finite. After four pomodoros, a longer break of 15–30 minutes helps restore sustained attention. The technique works best for tasks that can be broken into discrete chunks of effort.
