About this calculator

This calculator covers three common percentage operations: (1) finding what a given percentage of a number is — multiply the number by the percentage divided by 100; (2) finding what percentage one number is of another — divide the first by the second and multiply by 100; (3) calculating the percentage change between two values — divide the difference by the original value and multiply by 100.

These three formulas underlie most everyday percentage calculations: discounts, tax amounts, grade conversions, investment returns, and statistical comparisons. Percentage change is directional — a positive result indicates an increase, a negative result a decrease.
